I'M SUPPORTING MENTAL HEALTH PREVENTION BY COMPLETING THE 20 HOURS FOR 20TALK CHALLENGE IN NOVEMBER!
Wednesday 2nd Oct
WANT TO BE PART OF A MOVEMENT TOWARD BETTER MENTAL HEALTH? THIS POST IS FOR YOU!
20Talk is a charity that makes mental health education engaging and accessible, for young people by young people.
To raise funds for 20Talk’s movement, I'm going to sit in a 2x2 metre square for 20 hours with no technology and no talking. All I will have is my own thoughts, a journal, and a chair to sit on. (Quite terrifying for a compulsive yapper like myself)
As someone who has struggled with their mental health in the past, being both avoidant of thoughts and overly introspective, this experience will push my limits mentally, but will be eye opening in many ways.
So why am I doing this?
We have all been touched in some way or another by the reality of mental health. It can be dark, lonely, overwhelming, and confronting.
And the statistics are still alarming…
Unfortunately, suicide remains to be the leading cause of death for young people aged 15-44, and only 2% of mental health funding goes towards prevention (Mental Health Commission 2022)
Why wait for crises when we can promote prevention through improving mental health literacy, removing harmful stigma, and encouraging professional help-seeking. Let’s stop struggle in its tracks and change the stats.
How will donations to 20Talk be used to facilitate change?
Every $300 raised puts a young person through a two-day Mental Health First Aid course
Funds also go toward expanding 20Talk's online resources to hold prevention campaigns and large-scale interactive mental health events
So, I ask you again, want to be part of a movement toward better mental health?
Any donation, no matter how big or small, is a step toward change and is GREATLY appreciated. Keeping in mind the challenges we all face with the cost of living crisis, you can also show your support through sharing my page, following my journey, or if you dare… signing up for the challenge yourself.
Thank you for taking the time to read my post!
If you have a little more time, take it for yourself. Think about what you’re grateful for and what it is that makes you great.
If you have a little more time for others, spare a stranger a compliment, tell a loved one how much they mean to you, and share what it is that makes them great.
Have a wholesome day 💛
