A Little Shush Goes a Long Way
Hi Friends,
I need your help to raise important funds and awareness!
I'm participating in the 20 Hours for 20Talk.
This event will see me sitting in a 2m-by 2m square for 20 Hours in silence (you heard right!) with nothing but my water bottle, a journal and pen.
There will be no technology.
There will be no distractions.
There will be no talking.
I have entered my vulnerability era.
In the interest of raising funds for awareness and support for such an important issue, I openly share…
Darkness is a cloud I've always carried in my soul,
Holding me back, never feeling quite whole.
She engulfs my joy within her dark plumes of smoke,
And strangles my spirit in her stronghold of choke.
Evading the quiet and time on my own,
Is something I’ve mastered, to avoid being alone.
Alone in my thoughts, and the relentless mind chatter,
That tricks me into thinking, that my life doesn’t matter.
Awareness and help is a gift I wish I had,
In my younger years, when the world felt so mad.
I masked every wound with a laugh or a lie,
Too scared to reach out, too tired to try.
I’m peeling back the layers, both tender and cold,
Unearthing the truths that I never ever told.
Each word spoken is a step to reclaim,
The pieces I’ve lost to guilt, fear and shame.
Though darkness still lingers I’m starting to find,
A flicker of light in the depths of my mind.
And maybe, just maybe, I’m worthy of grace,
A life lived in full, not a mask on my face.
It’s not always detectable, the furrow of a frown,
Sometimes the poisoned salt falls heavy, from the tears of a clown.
Mental illness touches our lives all around us.
Whether it’s family, friends, colleagues or you.
It’s worthy of a spotlight and a conversation.
And maybe even a small donation.
