From the Mine to the Mind: Why I’m Spending 20 Hours in Silence for Mental Health

I was new to the mining industry… and I wasn’t ready for what I had to face.

Isolation.

Long hours.

Overwhelm.

And the battles happening inside my own head.

Then, I lost my friend Charlie to suicide. That moment shattered me. But it also lit a fire.

In my search for healing, I found breathwork — first as a lifeline to save myself, and then as a calling. I trained to become a breathwork teacher so I could help others find the same release, clarity, and strength that breathwork gave me.

Now, I’m taking on a challenge to raise awareness for mental health and show the true power of going inwards.

On September 6th, I’ll join other participants in the 20Talk Challenge: 20 hours in complete silence. No phone. No talking. Just me, a seat, a water bottle, a tent, my journal, and some self-reflection activities.

Every dollar I raise will go toward mental health scholarships — giving people the tools and support they need to keep going. My goal is to raise $1,000 by challenge day.

Hi, I’m Charlotte  a breathwork teacher and wellness advocate. Working  FIFO in the mining industry made me learn a lot about mental health struggles especially during this work period due to isolation and culture. I started then guiding people to reconnect with themselves through breath, cold exposure, and community. I decided to volunteer in Buddhist monasteries and retreat centers in Thailand, I’ve seen firsthand how mental health tools can change lives. I’m doing 20 Hours for 20 Talk to raise awareness and spark conversations that truly matter.
