20 Hours for Mental Health Prevention
On the 6th of September I’ll be sitting in a 2x2 metre box for 20 hours with no technology or talking. All I will have is a swag, chair, journal and my thoughts. The challenge is a statement of how mental health struggles can be lonely, confronting and difficult to manoeuvre with the fast pace of society.
I’m taking part in this challenge as the statistics show we have all been touched in some way or another by the reality of mental health. With suicide being the leading cause of death for young people aged 15-44, mental health prevention is crucial.
20Talk are a mental health charity that makes education for young people by young people. Your donations contribute to their relatable prevention campaigns and with only 2% of mental health funding going towards prevention (Mental Health Commission 2022), all donations truly count.
By improving mental health literacy, removing harmful stigma, and encouraging professional help-seeking we are preventing people from getting into crisis in the first place.
