Emily’s 20 Hours of Silence for Mental Health

I'm committing to the challenge of sitting in a 2-metre square box for 20 hours with no technology and no talking, to raise funds for mental health charity, 20Talk.

This challenge will be a small look into the day of someone struggling with mental health. All I will have with me are my thoughts, a journal, a swag and a chair.

So, why am I doing this?

We've all been touched in some way by the realities of mental health. Personally, I know how dark, lonely, and confronting it can be, and it can surface during any vulnerable moments.

The stats are truly alarming:

Suicide still remains the leading cause of death for young people aged 15-44.
Only 2% of mental health funding goes toward prevention (Mental Health Commission, 2022).

I'm completing the 20 Hours for 20Talk to help change these statistics. Your contribution will support 20Talk's relatable prevention campaigns. 20Talk is a mental health charity created by young people for young people, making education accessible and empowering.

Your generous donations will support:

$120 will fund a one-day Mental Health Maintenance course for a young person.
Expanding 20Talk's online resources and their community of 60,000+ followers.
Hosting large-scale interactive mental health events.

By improving mental health literacy, removing harmful stigma, and encouraging professional help-seeking, we can prevent people from reaching a crisis point in the first place.
