20HRS for 20TALK

I'm supporting mental health prevention by completing the 20 Hours For 20Talk Challenge on April 6th.

The youth = our future. Let's take care of their mental health!!

I'm going to sit in a two square metre space for 20 hours in complete silence, with no technology and only my mental health. And that's the easy part 🙂

The hard part is STOPPING, making time, and giving of myself to support a special charity doing critical work in service of young people trying to cope with mental health challenges.

I am asking you to STOP for a minute, see if this connects with you and matters to you, and take action to support this initiative with a donation.

Why am I doing this?

1) Because when I was a young person, I lost close friends to this issue. Beautiful lives lost because they didn't know how to cope, how to talk about it, or where to go for help. It makes me emotional even now as I write this.

2) Because I've had my own challenges with mental health as a young person and it gets incredibly dark and lonely when you're there.

3) I want my kids to grow up in a world where relatable help and education is readily available if they face these challenges as well.

We have all been touched in some way by the reality of mental health.

The stats are alarming..

  • Suicide remains the leading cause of death for young people aged 15-44.
  • Only 2% of mental health funding goes towards prevention (Mental Health Commission 2022)

I'm completing 20 Hours for 20Talk to try and help turn these statistics around.

Your contribution goes towards 20Talk's relatable prevention campaigns. They are a mental health charity that makes education cool and accessible, for young people by young people.

Your generous donations go towards:

  • Every $300 puts a young person through a two-day Mental Health First Aid course
  • Expanding 20Talk's online resources and 60,000+ social media community
  • Running large-scale interactive mental health events

I am passionate about prevention. In my personal health journey and in the work I do with small and medium businesses.

To me it makes a ton of sense to support prevention when it comes to youth mental health as well.

By improving mental health literacy, removing harmful stigma, and encouraging professional help-seeking we are preventing people from getting into crisis in the first place.

If you choose to support this initiative, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

If you choose not to, thank you for reading this and giving it your consideration. It's as important to know the things we need to say no to.

Make sure you take care of your own mental health first, so that you can take care of those around you.

Love and respect to you all.
