Why I am here
I have had a deeply blessed, extremely fortunate and generally abundant life so far, I have a loving and present family, I was raised without wanting for anything, I was supported through school and university, I have my general health and a wonderful circle of friends.I have also felt, at times, that neither this incredible life, nor myself was worth the struggle.
I am doing 20talk because I know what it feels like to think you do not deserve the help, when of course, you do.
The younger generations of Australia have been set up to distract, ignore, compare and hide the internal struggles we face around mental health and I want - no, need - to be a part of rebuilding and supporting our collective mental wellbeing.
20talk has held over 60 free Mental Health training courses for young people so they can learn essential skill to manage conversation around mental illness and suicide.
The 20talk challenge will mean me in a 2X2m square, no talking, no books, no electronics, no distractions -
just me, a journal, a pen (a blowup mattress & fave pillow)
for 20 hours straight on the 6th of September. I am going to use this time, to reflect, rewire and learn more about my own mental space.
So many young people feel ashamed to speak about the feelings they encounter as they start adulthood, and so many of those young people need not stay quiet.
Suffering in silence because you feel you are too lucky to deserve support, you are too privileged to feel numb, lost and hopeless - is a waste of your important & irreplaceable energy, there is so much you can offer this world! Please don't disregard that truth.
