20HRS for 20Talk | 9th November Melbourne

I'm supporting mental health prevention by completing the 20 Hours For 20Talk Challenge in November

In order to raise funds for mental health charity 20Talk I'm going to sit in a 2 metre square box for 20 hours with no technology and no talking. Yep, you heard that right. This outrageous challenge is going to push me mentally to the limits. All I will have is my own thoughts, a journal and a chair to sit on.

So why am I doing this?

We have all been touched in some way or another by the reality of mental health. It can be dark, lonely, and confronting.

Structurally, the statistics are still alarming..

  • Suicide still remains the leading cause of death for young people aged 15-44.
  • Only 2% of mental health funding goes towards prevention (Mental Health Commission 2022)

I'm completing the 20 Hours for 20Talk to turn these statistics around. Your contribution goes towards 20Talk's relatable prevention campaigns. They are a mental health charity that makes education cool and accessible, for young people by young people.

Your generous donations go towards:

  • Every $300 puts a young person through a two-day Mental Health First Aid course
  • Expanding 20Talk's online resources and 60,000+ social media community
  • Running large-scale interactive mental health events

It just makes sense to support prevention. By improving mental health literacy, removing harmful stigma, and encouraging professional help-seeking we are preventing people from getting people into crisis in the first place.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post and for donating to the cause.

Have a good day!

I need your support !

If you can, please support this challenge. I know times at the moment can be tough when it comes to funds but every piece of support counts. Your support can help raise awareness, get people talking, and make it easier for someone to seek help when they need it most. Whether it’s by donating, sharing this post, or simply checking in on a friend, you can make a difference.

Who inspired me to do this challenge?

@safespace

With only being apart of this community for such a small period of time I already feel so grateful for the relationships I have built. And I was inspired every week by all the people completing some sort of challenge or giving back to the community.

So why am I doing this?

Friday 25th Oct
This one hits close to home, I’ve watched close family and friends navigate mental health challenges for years, and their journeys have deeply impacted my life.

Secondly, I’m a teacher which means I have a full time job talking, through giving instruction, questioning, encouragement, facilitation, modelling, differentiation, you name it. My day consists of hundreds of questions and can get extremely overwhelming.

Thirdly, I’m not okay with being alone. I thrive off people, new connections and communication. I can barely watch a movie without thinking about something that happened during my day and telling someone (Mitch lol).

Fourthly, and potentially the main reason why I am doing this; I don’t think before I speak. I have a strong, bold, enthusiastic personality which is great in some parts in life, but I am not cautious of what I say and this has affected my relationships with some people.

Who am I?

Wednesday 23rd Oct
Hi my name is Jess Moroney, and I’m a 23 year old Secondary school teacher. I am a bold and enthusiastic young adult who loves to get outdoors and connect with new people. Ever since I was young I had always shown great leaderships skills and these skills have driven me to where I am now. My current overall goal is to travel, see the world and immerse myself into new cultures.
