Why This Youth Mental Health Charity Means So Much to Me.

Mental health is something we hear a lot about these days—but when it hits close to home, it takes on a whole new meaning. Recently, our family has been through an incredibly tough journey that has opened my eyes to just how vital mental health support is for young people.

My loved one, Ben, recently spent 14 weeks in hospital after a mental health crisis. During that time, he was diagnosed with schizophrenia—a condition that not only turned his world upside down, but deeply affected everyone who cares about him. Watching someone you love struggle with something so complex, so frightening, and so misunderstood is something I wouldn’t wish on anyone. But what I do wish is that every young person facing similar battles has the support, care, and understanding they need.

That’s why I’ve chosen to raise money for a youth mental health charity that’s incredibly close to my heart. This charity provides life-changing support, guidance, and safe spaces for young people who are struggling. They’re there for the Bens of the world—the ones who are scared, confused, and unsure where to turn.

Raising money for this cause is my way of turning pain into purpose. It’s a way to make sure that other families don’t feel as alone, and that other young people know that help is out there. No one should suffer in silence, and no one should feel like their mental illness defines them.
