Why This Charity?
Mental health education for young people isn’t just important — it can change lives.
For me, it took years of trial and error before I found the right tools to manage my own mental health. I went from therapist to therapist, and in the meantime, I leaned on podcasts, books, and anything I could find just to try and understand what I was going through. I remember feeling so lost and alone during that time.
But not everyone gets that chance. For some, therapy feels out of reach. For others, it just doesn’t work. And I’ve seen the impact of that lack of support first-hand. I’ve lost friends to their struggles. I’ve seen others give up because the help they needed wasn’t there. It shouldn’t have to be this way.
That’s why I care so much about 20Talk. They make mental health support real, relatable, and accessible for young people who might otherwise slip through the cracks. Instead of just research and statistics, they bring tools and conversations that actually fit into young people’s lives.
And on a personal note, this cause connects deeply with what I’ve been exploring in my own art. For years, I’ve been making silly, satirical stencil designs — the kind of things you look at, chuckle, and then suddenly find yourself thinking a little differently. I’ve always loved the idea of planting small, positive thoughts in unexpected places. That’s why I’m especially drawn to 20Talk’s positive banners. They feel like an extension of what I’ve been trying to create myself: playful but powerful messages that can catch someone in their day and shift their mood, even just a little.
The need is real:
• 80% of people are supported by only 2% of mental health funding.
• By 2030, depression is expected to be the world’s leading disease.
• Too often, information exists but it never reaches the people who need it most.
Here’s how 20Talk is changing that:
• $200 funds a one-day Mental Health Maintenance course for a young person, giving them practical tools they can use every day.
• $1,000 helps 20Talk reach 80,000 young people online, sparking curiosity and starting conversations about mental health.
• $120 funds a banner with positive reminders in public places, seen by thousands daily.
When you give, you’re not just donating money — you’re helping young people feel seen, supported, and hopeful again.
For me, finding the right tools made all the difference. With your support, others can find that same hope and strength too.
Sitting with Myself
For most of my life, I’ve been running. Not physically, but mentally — always distracted, always busy, always finding ways to avoid truly sitting with myself. Like many others, I’ve struggled with my mental health, but instead of facing it, I pushed it aside, buried it under the noise of everyday life.
But over the last few years, things have shifted. I’ve started learning the value of stillness — not as a luxury, but as a form of healing. I’ve embraced practices like meditation, mindfulness, and awareness. I’ve begun taking time out to just bewith myself — even when it’s uncomfortable. And through that, I’ve learned the importance of being able to sit in your own presence, without distraction or judgment.
That’s why I’ve taken on this challenge: 20 hours inside a 2x2 metre box. No distractions. No running. Just me, my thoughts, and space to reflect. It’s a symbolic act — a physical commitment to something I’ve been working on internally for a long time.
This isn’t the first time I’ve advocated for mental health, either. I’ve always believed in the power of vulnerability and open conversation. In the past, I’ve organised art exhibitions focused on mental health, using my creativity to express what words often couldn’t. Much of my art explores themes of struggle, healing, and the raw truth of what it means to be human.
Through both art and now this challenge, I hope to raise awareness, break stigma, and support others who are on their own journey. This fundraiser is for a mental health charity doing vital work to support people in need.
If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed, anxious, disconnected or simply stuck — you’re not alone. And you don’t have to face it alone.
Every donation helps give someone else the support, time, and space they need to start their own healing process. Whether it’s $1 or $100, it all makes a difference.
Thank you for reading, for supporting, and for believing — in me, in this cause, and in the importance of mental health for all of us.
