Why im doing this
When I saw this challenge I thought 'wow, what a weird and wonderful thing to do. I've gotta do it' and my wife Gigi said '...thats literally my worst nightmare' π So I guess I'm on my own with this, and that sitting in silence for 20 hours is one of those you think you'll either love or hate?! To be honest, I'm usually not one to fundraise. My contribution to causes tends to come with sharing information with others, collecting items to donate and volunteering (I recently started walking dogs for older people! I highly recommend it). But when this cause and challenge came up, I thought it felt right. I mean, supporting mental health in a proactive rather than reactive way is something I strongly believe in. From my own experience, working in healthcare is super rewarding, but it has also given me a unique view into all the ways that we can be doing better as a society to help people long before they find themselves in a crisis. This is why I'm participating in this challenge and asking you to be very kind and generous in donating to the cause. Honestly, supporting me to sit in silence for 20 hours in a warehouse full of strangers with the bare minimum (a journal, water bottle, swag and a camp chair) is a pretty weird thing to do- but it's also pretty damn cool. I have many loved ones who have struggled significantly with their mental health. I've struggled too, particularly as a teen, and I can't imagine how it would have felt to be seen, supported and enabled to participate in education around mental health at that time. So let's do better, let's be proactive and support a cause that's trying to do something about the mental health crisis. At the very least, sponsor me to shut up for 20 hours πKirsty
I'm keen to challenge myself by participating in this and raise awareness for mental health. As a queer person and healthcare worker I am acutely aware of how difficult it is to manage mental health, and am passionate about having a positive impact.Thank you to my Sponsors
