Looking Forward to a Challenge
It’s Monique here — founder of Bad & Boujee Hair, mum of two, and real-life woman figuring things out as I go. Let’s talk truth for a second.
Running a business from home sounds dreamy — and it can be. But when you’re juggling orders, Instagram DMs, shipping, social media, a house that doesn’t clean itself, a child who needs your full presence, and a mind that doesn’t always play nice… it gets messy. Real messy.
I’ve struggled with my mental health. There were days I didn’t even recognise myself — just a body on autopilot, mind foggy, heart heavy. I’ve had moments where showing up online felt easier than showing up for myself. And yep — I’ll say it — I’ve been addicted to my phone. I’d scroll for hours looking for something… distraction, inspiration, connection? I still don’t know.
But what I do know is this:
I love to talk. I love to share. And I believe that when we tell the truth about what it’s really like behind the scenes, we give other women permission to breathe out too.
So here’s what I’m working on:
🧠 Mental health first. Not last on the to-do list. I’ve started treating my mind like my business — checking in, investing in it, giving it space to rest.
📵 Less scrolling, more living. I’m setting better phone boundaries. Do I still get caught in TikTok black holes? Sure. But I’m catching myself quicker. And choosing real life more often.
👩👧 More presence, less perfection. My son doesn’t care if my business hits targets — he wants eye contact, laughs, scooter walks, and time where I’m not glued to the screen.
💼 Building a business that fits my life — not the other way around. I created Bad & Boujee to give women confidence. That includes me too.
If you’re a mum, a business owner, or just a woman trying to do her best — I see you. It’s okay to be a work in progress. It’s okay to talk about it. And it’s more than okay to want something softer, slower, and more real.
Let’s start doing that. Together.
