Richard is taking on the 20-hour challenge to support youth mental health and raise awareness about the importance of prevention.

Don’t chase passion, chase purpose

We’ve all heard the advice: “follow your passion.” It sounds inspiring, but in reality, passion alone can only take you so far. Passion is often fleeting, it burns bright at the start but fizzles when things get tough, when the road gets long, or when the excitement wears off.

That’s why passion, while valuable, should never be the destination. Instead, chase purpose.

The Limits of Passion

Passion gives you energy in the short term. It feels good, it feels exciting, and it creates momentum. But passion is like a spark…it flares up quickly, and if it isn’t grounded in something deeper, it dies out just as fast.

Think about all the projects, workouts, or habits you’ve started with enthusiasm, only to lose interest once the novelty wore off. Passion wasn’t enough to carry you through resistance, fatigue, or setbacks.

Why Purpose Wins Every Time

Purpose is different. Purpose is your why. It’s the reason you get up in the morning, the driver behind your decisions, and the anchor that keeps you moving forward even when you don’t feel like it.

When you have purpose, discomfort stops being a roadblock, it becomes fuel!!💪 Purpose pushes you into uncomfortable growth positions, the places where discipline is built and transformation happens. It may not feel good in the moment, but it’s exactly what’s required to change your mindset, your habits, and ultimately, your life.

Passion says, “Do this because it feels good.”

Purpose says, “Do this because it matters.”

The Growth Zone is Uncomfortable and That’s the Point

True growth is rarely comfortable. It requires discipline, sacrifice, and consistency…things passion alone can’t sustain. Purpose, on the other hand, gives meaning to the struggle.

When your “why” is strong, you’ll push through tiredness, distractions, and fear. You’ll keep going when others quit. You’ll step into the uncomfortable zone not because you love it, but because your purpose demands it.

How to Shift From Passion to Purpose

  1. Identify Your Why. Ask yourself: Why does this matter? Who benefits if I succeed?
  2. Align With Your Values. Purpose comes from living in line with your deepest values, not temporary emotions.
  3. Commit Beyond Feelings. Build discipline to act even when passion fades.
  4. Embrace Discomfort. See challenges not as obstacles, but as proof you’re on the right path.

Final Thought

Passion might light the fire, but purpose keeps it burning. Don’t chase what excites you today—chase what fulfills you for a lifetime. When your purpose becomes your anchor, you’ll find the strength to step into the uncomfortable growth that creates real, lasting change.
