Spending 20hrs in silence in a 2x2m Box
I was invited by a friend of mine to help raise money for an underfunded Mental Health system that we have in Perth - the funds will be put towards resources and education aimed at suicide prevention and depression especially amongst youth. I thought if i can help in any way by participating in this event supporting this foundation by being silent and writing all day/night it’s important and I will commit; I’m personally up and down mentally there’s always a pretty steady undercurrent of internal conflict within myself and my mind which I can always feel is there and at times I don’t want to feel this so when it comes to the forefront coping mechanisms usually emerge that are sometimes unorthodox I guess but luckily I have many people around and a busy life to keep steady so I’m a lucky!! I know this is the same for many friends and family too xo it’s been sad to learn year after year friends taking their own lives I’m going to use this time in my little box zone to write about everything on my mind so will try to reflect on everyone I care for and for the community as a whole and look forward to taking part in this visual representation of 250 strangers sitting in silence advocating for the seriousness of mental health that effects so many 💗💗i hope this makes sense what I’m writing xoSarah Shepherd
Was asked by a friend to take part in this; keeping personal journals every year since 1999 this sounded like something I’d be up for. Believe it or not I can sit and be quiet for long amounts of time despite what people may think….but maybe not.Like everyone I’ve had my mental health battles and challenges I’m always up or down and feel strange when I’m somewhere in between. I’ve had more then 1 or 2 friends die now from suicide so if this something that can help raise money towards mental health and this cause then I will try xo
