20 Hours of Silence for Youth Mental Health.

Our Why ❤️

Two generations. One conversation. A shared purpose.

This September we will be stepping out of our comfort zone to take on the 20 Hours for 20Talk challenge.

For 20 hours we will sit alone in silence inside a 2 mtr square space with nothing but our thoughts to raise funds for youth mental health. It’s not meant to be easy but neither are the battles that so many young people face every day.

Our family knows firsthand that mental health doesn’t just affect one person , it touches everyone who loves them it’s a ripple effect. 

Like so many families, we have experienced the heartbreak, uncertainty and challenges that come when someone you love is struggling. Those experiences have shown us the incredible power of conversation and the importance of recognising when someone may be struggling and how life changing it could be when people know where and when  to turn for support.

Social media, constant comparison, anxiety, loneliness and the pressure to always appear “okay” can make it difficult to ask for help and often what’s really going on is hidden behind a smile.

That’s why the work of 20Talk resonates with us.

20Talk is a Western Australian charity created by young people, for young people, helping 18 to 30 year olds build practical mental health skills they can use in everyday life. Rather than waiting until someone reaches crisis point, they empower young adults with the tools, confidence and knowledge to navigate life’s challenges and look after their mental wellbeing and support those around them.

As  mum and daughter we are taking on this challenge together because we believe that conversations have the power to change a life

Our hope is that our 20 hours of silence encourage  one person to start a conversation and check in with someone they care about or reach out for support themselves. If that happens then every hour and every step of this journey will have been worthwhile .

Our goal is to raise $2,000 to support the important and worthwhile work that  20Talk is doing for young people.
