Silence in the Chaos: Support Our 20-Hour Challenge
For 20 hours, we’ll be sitting in a 2×2 metre square in a warehouse, alongside 400 other participants, with no talking and no technology. All we’ll have are the essentials we bring with us: a chair, sleeping mat, journal, water, and food. No distractions.
This challenge is a small glimpse into the isolation and struggle that someone experiencing mental health challenges may feel every day. We know it will be tough; physically, mentally, and emotionally - but it’s something we’re choosing to do in solidarity with people navigating these experiences.
We have both been impacted by mental health personally, and through people we love and care about. Like so many others, we know that mental health struggles can feel dark, lonely, and confronting. That’s why this cause matters so much to us.
And honestly, anyone who knows us knows we can barely stop yapping on a normal day, so taking on 20 hours of complete silence really is a challenge for us. That makes it feel even more meaningful to step outside our comfort zone for something that matters this much.
The reality is still alarming:
- Suicide remains the leading cause of death for young people aged 15–44.
- Only 2% of mental health funding goes towards prevention.
We’re completing this challenge to help turn those statistics around.
Your donation will support 20Talk, a mental health charity creating relatable prevention campaigns and making mental health education more accessible for young people, by young people. Every contribution helps by:
- putting young people through a one-day Mental Health Maintenance course
- expanding 20Talk’s online resources and social community
- supporting large-scale interactive mental health events
What is Mental Health Maintenance?
Mental Health Maintenance is a free, one-day workshop designed with industry experts to help people better understand and engage with different areas of their wellbeing, while learning practical ways to monitor and maintain their mental health before reaching crisis point. By improving mental health literacy, reducing stigma, and encouraging help-seeking, the workshop aims to support prevention before crisis happens.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read this and for supporting us. We hope this small challenge can play a part in helping change someone’s life.
With love,
