20 Hours of Silence Challenge!
Hello all!
I have chosen to participate in this challenge for a few reasons. My passion for youth mental health advocacy has taken on a professional role since November 2025, as a mental health support worker. But my personal experience of youth mental health is one of the key drivers why I’m raising money for this challenge.
I’m going to be spending 20 hours in silence. No talking. No phone. And a 2x2 metre square space that I can only leave when going to the toilet and filling up my drink bottle. All I will have with me is my journal.
Without the support of my beautiful adopted family over the past six years, I may have ended up in foster care or on the brink of youth homelessness when I had to move out of home at 15. By the time I was 17, my hometown was traumatised by the worst major flooding our small town had seen in 10 years. It took away my school, my work, and my home. The only thing I had was my community. I was going through VCE at the time, when stress is already at a high. I had to navigate exams, applying for university, when I didn’t even have a school building to show up to.
I know first hand what being isolated with no mental health support can feel like as a young person, but I don’t want others to have to go through that alone.
Through donating, you’re helping fund mental health resources to be accessible to every young person. Unfortunately, a lot of mental health resources aren’t available with funding behind it. This money will go towards those kids like me when I was younger, to be able to be apart of an educated community teaching young people how to deal with mental health struggles.
