I’m About To Spend 20 Hours Sitting In A 2×2 Metre Square.
In silence.
Just Me And My Brain, alongside 400 Other People And Their Brains.
no talking. no tech. No distractions. Did I mention it’s for 20 hours?
No doubt those of you who know me have THOUGHTS.. so Hopefully now I have your attention.
I’ve been working in suicide prevention for 8 months now, and I have seen people fall and get up and fall and get up in a way so familiar.. It’s been heartbreaking and healing in equal measure.
Walking alongside people in those initial weeks after an attempt, helping them navigate services and systems, finding connection in the moments where life feels most fragile – it can be confronting. I see the gaps in care, the bottlenecks people get stuck in when they’re trying so hard to keep going. I see the big statistic in real life:
-Suicide is the leading cause of death for young people aged 15-44. And only 2% of mental health funding goes towards prevention.
This is why I’m fundraising for 20Talk.
Any donations I raise will go directly to turning these stats around. Towards prevention campaigns and accessible education for young people. Towards workshops that teach people how to understand and monitor their wellbeing before things reach breaking point.
Before the hospital visit.
Before the crisis team.
Before the “we didn’t know it was this bad.”
I’m hoping this issue, or even just the vision of me sitting in a silent square with nothing but my thoughts and a journal has activated your generosity. Either way, thank you for reading. Thank you for any amount donated, big or small (if you have the means). Thank you for caring.
Big love to you ❤️
