Lisa is taking on the 20-hour challenge to support youth mental health and raise awareness about the importance of prevention.

Mental Health is prevalent in all of our lives; it affects those we love, those we know and those we pass in the street. Working toward actionable aid to those that seek out help is extremely important.

I have personally been affected by mental health issues through friends, family and my own struggles. It is difficult to reach out but it even harder when resources are scarce or unknown.

My 20 hours of silence is raising money for 20Talk, a mental health organisation that supplies young Australians with tools and skills to aid their mental health and how to start difficult conversations about mental illness and suicide.

Suicide Prevention is highly underfunded in our country - 80% of the population is supported by 2% of mental health funding.

Death by suicide is represented by 32% of all deaths in people aged 15 - 24 in Australia.

In 2024 in Australia, 3037 people died by suicide, with males being 3 x more likely to commit suicide than females.

It is not just in the aftermath that we act, but in the years leading up, the times in the dark, the spaces in between, helping people who are experiencing mental health issues throughout their lives.

20 Hours for 20Talk will see me contained for 20 hours without my phone or any distractions. It is complete silence in a small square with other participants to reflect and be isolated in thought, not unlike the way in which mental health affects the brain and body. It is a time for my own self but also a way to bring attention to the lack of funding and support that is required, and the aid that 20Talk provides.
