20 Hours For 20Talk | Sunday 29th March

Michelle is taking on the 20-hour challenge to support youth mental health and raise awareness about the importance of prevention.

My why

Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of walking alongside many young people who have faced deep and overwhelming mental health challenges. I’ve seen the weight they carry, the isolation they feel, and the strength it takes to keep going when everything feels too heavy. Their experiences, combined with moments from my own journey, have shown me just how important it is to create safe spaces, open conversations, and real support for those who are struggling.

That’s why I’m taking part in the 20 Hours for 20 Talk Challenge.

For 20 hours, I’ll be sitting in a 2m x 2m space with only a chair, my swag, a journal, and my thoughts. It’s a symbolic gesture, an uncomfortable, contained space that reflects what so many people live with internally every day. The difference is that when my 20 hours end, I get to walk out. Many others don’t feel they have that choice.

I’m incredibly fortunate to have a supportive network and enough self‑awareness to recognise my own difficult moments before they became something darker. Not everyone has that. Too many people find themselves reaching the end of a tunnel where they believe there’s only one option left. That’s why this challenge matters.

I’m doing this to raise both awareness and much‑needed funds for mental health support, because help should never be out of reach. If this challenge sparks a conversation, encourages someone to check in on a friend, or helps even one person step away from that “one option,” then every second in that small square of space will have been worth it.

We can’t always change what someone is going through.
But together, we can change whether they face it alone.

If you’re able to support, by donating, sharing the message, or simply starting a conversation, you’re helping create hope, one person at a time.

We have all been touched in some way or another by the reality of mental health. It can be dark, lonely, and confronting.

Structurally, the statistics are still alarming..

  • Suicide still remains the leading cause of death for young people aged 15-44.
  • Only 2% of mental health funding goes towards prevention (Mental Health Commission 2022)

I'm completing the 20 Hours for 20Talk to turn these statistics around. Your contribution goes towards 20Talk's relatable prevention campaigns. They are a mental health charity that makes education cool and accessible, for young people by young people.

Your generous donations go towards:

  • Every $120 puts a young person through a one day Mental Health Maintenance course
  • Expanding 20Talk's online resources and 60,000+ social media community
  • Running large-scale interactive mental health events

By improving mental health literacy, removing harmful stigma, and encouraging professional help-seeking we are preventing people from getting people into crisis in the first place.

Thank you for taking the time to read this post and for donating to the cause. Hopefully this small challenge can help change someone’s life.

If you ever need to chat, I’m always here. Love you all and thanks again!
