20 Hours in a Square. A Lifetime of Impact.
On September 6, I will voluntarily step into a 2x2 metre square and remain there for 20 hours.
No phone.
No books.
No conversations.
No social media.
No entertainment.
No distractions.
Just me and my thoughts.
At first glance, it may sound like an unusual challenge. After all, most fundraising events ask you to run, cycle, swim, climb or push your body to its limits. This one is different. This one asks us to experience, even if only for a short time, something that many young people face every day: isolation.
Of course, after 20 hours, I will walk out of that square and return to my normal life. Many young people struggling with anxiety, depression, loneliness and mental health challenges don’t have that luxury. For them, feelings of being trapped, disconnected or unheard can last far longer than a day.
That is why I decided to take part in the 20 Hours for 20 Talk Challenge.
As the father of three sons, the wellbeing of young people is something very close to my heart. Every parent hopes their children will grow up confident, resilient and happy. But life can be complicated, and sometimes the greatest gift we can offer is not advice or solutions, but simply support, understanding and someone willing to listen.
Mental health challenges do not always announce themselves. Often they remain hidden behind a smile, a joke, or the words “I’m fine.” That is why organisations like 20 Talk are so important. They help create awareness, encourage conversations and provide support when it is needed most.
I have set myself a fundraising goal of $1,000, and I am incredibly grateful to everyone who has already contributed. Your generosity has helped this campaign get off to an amazing start and has strengthened my determination to see it through.
If you are reading this, I would like to ask for your help.
A donation of any size can make a real difference. Equally important, sharing this page or starting a conversation about mental health with someone you care about can have an impact far beyond what we can measure.
On September 6, I will spend 20 hours in a small square.
Together, we can help create a much bigger space for understanding, support and hope.
Thank you for standing with me.
