A couple of years ago, I traded the coastal hinterland for the hub of the west, and relocated from the Northern Rivers to Dubbo for an incredible work opportunity.
I’m a criminal lawyer. I work in public defence. I appear for some of the most disadvantaged and vulnerable members of our community. The work is unrelenting; so too is the lack of accessible mental health support for youth, particularly in the regions.
For the most part, it’s been an incredible journey. I fell in love (again), fell apart (again), and met some beautiful, inspiring people.
But with every success, came the inevitable struggle. When I became unwell, I had a safety net of people who loved me; friends and family who were willing to listen, and sit with me in the darkness.
I acknowledge the inherent privilege of their support, and my circumstances, but many people face these issues alone, and without love and support.
I have chosen to do this challenge for them.
