My ‘Why’.
Each year, for as long as I can remember, I’ve set myself a goal; to grow.
At six, I wanted the stars— expansion, exploration and love. I wanted to be things. I wanted to do things. I wanted to experience life.
At nine, I preached kindness— through awkward phases of being verbally bullied by many different, younger souls that we all tend to encounter within the world.
At twelve, I experienced change. A very different kind of change.. mentally I mean.
Awkwardness began first, followed by lack of self confidence and the inability to let myself “enjoy” childhood— stomach cramps GALORE.
I now understand that this was a n x I e t y.
Then the d e p r e s s I o n kicked in, halting everything. A heavy pit, always prevalent within my chest. It removes your ability to comprehend compassion, meaning and what it means to exist.
It fucks with you.
At sixteen, I met a human.
Our relationship was.. unhealthy, to say the least— a period that really initiated the journey of growth.
Time collapsed and memories morphed together, the dark thoughts were at their darkest state. This went on for many years.
But at twenty, life grew brighter!
I met a soul; one that encouraged (whole heartedly). For rest, self love, laughter AND guidance towards healing my inner child.
(This human and I are now engaged!)
And now, at the soon-to-be-age of 24, I can say that I am still learning.
Learning how to share my soul energetically and how to journey through dimensions of myself. How to break cycles and to heal the trauma that isn’t mine to carry anymore.
We all are. Because we’re all important and deserve to exist.
I’ve decided that once again, I’m going to grow and to grow with others.
We all need support— on some days more than others. And at any age. Mental illnesses can arise whenever and from whatever.
Quote: “forgive yourself for what time could only teach”.
Time allows for expansion.
Only if you’re able, kindly donate so that together, we can support each other into the future of humankind.
If you’ve made it this far, then THANK YOU!
20 Hours of Silence for Youth Mental Health.
I’m taking on the 20 Hours for 20Talk Challenge which will see me sitting in a 2×2 metre square in a warehouse, alongside 400 other participants, with no talking and no technology for 20 hours. All I’ll have are the essentials I bring with me: a chair, sleeping mat, journal, water, and food. No distractions.
This challenge is a small glimpse into the isolation and struggle that someone with mental health challenges might feel every day. I know it will be tough - physically, mentally, and emotionally - but it’s a challenge I’m taking on to stand in solidarity with those navigating these experiences. So why am I doing this?
We have all been touched in some way by the reality of mental health. It can be dark, lonely, and confronting.
Structurally, the statistics are still alarming:
- Suicide remains the leading cause of death for young people aged 15-44.
- Only 2% of mental health funding goes towards prevention (Mental Health Commission 2022).
I’m completing the 20 Hours for 20Talk Challenge to help turn these statistics around. Your contribution goes towards 20Talk’s relatable prevention campaigns. They are a mental health charity that makes education cool and accessible, for young people by young people. Your generous donations go towards:
- Every $120 puts a young person through a one-day Mental Health Maintenance course
- Expanding 20Talk’s online resources and 60,000+ social media community
- Running large-scale interactive mental health events'
What is Mental Health Maintenance?
